The third segment of the Halo for Xbox trilogy has begun. The war is on to save the galaxy from a parasitic monster, an alien nation, and the launch of a network of devastating devices that could completely destroy all living things. However, perhaps a recap is in order to understand how the story has progressed and the situation the characters now face.

In the initial story of the trilogy, the Covenant, a religious alien civilization, initiates a war on all living creatures in order to fulfill the requirements of its faith that will lead them to what they believe is their Great Journey. To do this, they must find and fire an array of Halos that are dispersed throughout the galaxy. The Halos are immense terraformed rings that were created by the Forerunners, who vanished a long time ago. The first Halo was discovered and to the relief of all humanity, the legendary SPARTAN II military forces lead by Spartan-117 (also known as the Master Chief), destroyed it and its artificial world. A war on the next Halo installation begins. The leader of the Covenant forces is stripped of his command and rank and dons the Armor of the Arbiter. This custom sends a fighter on a suicide mission with the goal of regaining honor in death. A civil war within the Covenant broke out when the Arbiter discovered that the leaders of the Covenant, called the Prophets, had been lying all along to their faithful about the Halos and the mythical Great Journey that didn’t really exist. The Covenant had also reawakened another terrifying threat to all living creatures that appeared in the Halo for Xbox. A parasitic monster, the Flood, was now on the path to eradicating all life forms by killing them and changing them into horrific puppets that he can control in the attempt to take over the galaxy.

The second Halo has been activated and the other installations are on emergency standby and ready to fire. The Covenant has discovered Earth where it believes the secrets of the Halo array are hidden and are ready to fight to find them. The Flood has mobilized his forces and enters the conflict to achieve his goal of domination. The Elites, followers of the Arbiter, and human fighters are seriously outnumbered. It is up to the human forces leader, the Master Chief, to take command and lead them into battle to stop the Covenant, the Flood, and the Halo network from destroying the galaxy.
