In order to get the more protective armor in Halo 3, you are required to complete certain tasks or attain a specific game score. At the beginning of the game, you are given armor to protect yourself with but as you move through out the levels, you can acquire stronger and more colorful pieces. Halo 3 Armor can be mixed and matched as you get it to create an individual look for your warrior.

As a member of the Spartan forces, you will have two options of basis equipment to choose from at the beginning of the game. You can select Mark IV armor or Close Quarters Battle armor. Both have features that can be advantageous in your fight so you will have to make up your mind which type will help you the most. As you move through each level of the game and are granted achievements, your equipment supply will grow. You will then have more options as to the type of gear you wish to wear to protect yourself and improve your defense against the enemy. You can customize the look of your helmets, shoulder pads, and chest protectors by changing the color if you choose. Just be aware that the color of equipment makes no difference to game play or the characteristics of the armor you are using. In some cases, you may be granted new Halo 3 Armor to choose from that does not include all pieces, for example, you may select a new helmet but there are no shoulder pads or chest armor to go with it. So you may have to mix and match other pieces to gain maximum protection and ensure your survival.

Elite forces have basic equipment available to them at the beginning of game play as well. You will have to decide between Assault or Combat armor. New battle gear will also be awarded to you as achievements are accomplished. Depending on the combat zone you face, you will have to figure out if a change of equipment might be necessary to guarantee success in the fight against your opponents. Halo 3 armor combinations allow you to maximize your defense capabilities and personal protection.

The ability to change combinations of Halo 3 Armor as you fight your way through the missions gives you the advantage of increasing your chances of survival and annihilating the enemy. Examine each piece of equipment you acquire to determine if it may be more beneficial to you during game play than the gear you are currently wearing. Whether you choose to be a Spartan soldier or a fighter from the Covenant Elite, you will have many options available to you as you complete your missions to change your strengths and skills in the game.
